The role of the University of Basra and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in raising awareness during the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week: A scientific seminar on the impact of drugs on society

The Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Marine Sciences, University of Basra, in cooperation with the Human Rights Unit, the Legal Department, the Human Resources Department, the Media Unit, and the Student Activities Department, organized a scientific seminar entitled "Drugs and Psychotropic Substances: Their Impact on the University Environment and the Role of Society in Combating Them." The seminar was held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in the conference hall.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness in the community about the importance of the drug issue and its negative impact on youth. It also focused on the psychological and social dimensions of this phenomenon, addressing the issue from all angles.

The seminar included lectures delivered by Colonel Ali Mohsen, Assistant Director of Basra Narcotics Affairs; Assistant Professor Dr. Hiba Majeed Issa, Director of the Psychological Guidance Center; and Assistant Lecturer Sajjad Sabah Idham Al-Hajami, Director of the Legal Department at the College of Computer Science and Information Technology. During their presentations, they offered in-depth insights into the psychological and social effects of drugs on individuals and society.

This seminar contributed to enhancing societal understanding of the phenomenon of drug abuse, which contributes to combating this phenomenon and working to raise awareness among young people about the serious risks associated with it.
