Vision

The College of Marine Sciences was established due to the need for this unique science. Iraq has a small coast crowded with many ports in this region from which oil is being exported. This is a main factor affecting negatively the Iraqi coasts environmentally and geologically as well as the effect of climate change. So it was important to prepare a specialized staff that would have the ability to manage the Iraqi coasts and the waterfront and make maximum use of that vital area.

Objectives

• Providing some unique specializations in the field of natural marine sciences (including marine biology, biological development, marine vertebrates, and marine aquaculture and applied marine sciences to serve the needs of the marine societies.
• Building a scientifically qualified staff in all fields of marine sciences to work in the public and private sectors.
• Carrying out qualified scientific research, using follow-up and simulation techniques (modeling) and encouraging research and development in the field of marine sciences.
• Opening scopes for postgraduate studies for these unique specializations.
