About the college

The College of Marine Sciences According to the letter issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (No.3/3/4129/ Department of Studies, Planning and Follow-up) the College of Marine Sciences (CMS) was established in 2016/2017. The CMS is the first specialized college in its field aiming to build a specialized staff in that. The CMS also seeks to conduct research on the reality of the Iraqi marine environment, finding ways to develop fisheries and natural resources and studying the means of protecting them from pollution. Moreover, it studies how to achieve the optimal use of marine resources, and developing strategic marine studies due to their importance for the public benefit. The CMS consists of two parts; The Department of Applied Marine Sciences: It studies marine physics, marine geology and marine chemistry. The Department of Natural Marine Sciences: It studies marine biology and aquaculture.
