The Department of Applied Marine Sciences is one of the College of Marine Sciences departments, which was established in 2016. Which is the first of its kind in Iraq. The department is important for providing specialists in marine sciences (marine geology, marine physics, marine chemistry), which are comparable to those in international colleges. Where the student is specialized in these sciences through scientific lectures, training in laboratories, and scientific field trips. They  will graduates with a bachelor's degree to work in the public and private sectors. they have the ability to manage the marine area, serve the community and the labor market, spread knowledge and science, and support the needs of the community in the various maritime authorities. The importance of these sciences is that we have a small waterfront and the importance of our worlds.
