“Recycling in Basra between reality and ambition: A symposium”

Under the patronage of the Chancellor f the University of Basrah and the dean of the College of Marine Science, a scientific symposium on the status of waste recycling in Basra was held by the College of Marine Science on Sunday 18th April 2021. The symposium included three lectures with the aim to identify the harmful wastes in the city and the best ways to exploit them.

The lectures introduced were:

1. “Waste and Energy” by Eng. Alaa Abdul-Hussain Al-Bu Ghazi, Chairman of the Basra Investment Commission. He touched upon the possibility of using waste to generate energy in order to create a safe environment.

2. “Recycling of oil and salt wastes and ways to exploit them in industry and reducing pollution “ by Eng. Abdul Amir Zuweid Hussein, director of the asphalt plant.

3. “Plastic wastes and methods of recycling them “ by Prof. Dr. Abdullah Abbas Hussein from the Polymer Research Center.

Recommendations to be submitted to the presidency of the university for consideration and action.
