The College of Marine Sciences at the University of Basra organized a workshop on data diplomacy and biodiversity in the Gulf.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the current state of marine life and the threats it faces, explore mechanisms for developing regional cooperative frameworks for managing marine resources, and enhance the role of Iraqi academic research in supporting environmental diplomacy.
The workshop included a lecture by Professor Amjad Naama Jassim, who highlighted the strategic importance of data diplomacy and its crucial role in facilitating digital exchange among littoral states. He emphasized that shared scientific information governance is a critical tool for making unified environmental decisions to address climate change, which threatens marine ecosystems in the Arabian Gulf.
