Master's student Mohammed Majid Shaker, from the College of Marine Sciences, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Abdul Hussein Hatem Ghazi, Administrative Assistant, and Assistant Professor Dr. Fadhil Jabbar Farhan, published a research paper titled: "Comparative Analysis of Na/K ATPase and PEPCK Gene Components in Metapenaeus affinis in Different Salinity Environments in Southern Iraq." The paper was published in the "Egyptian Journal of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries," issued by the Department of Zoology at Ain Shams University.
The study documented the most important physiological and genetic adaptation mechanisms that enable this species to engage in continuous migration between the high-salinity environments of Iraqi marine waters and the low-salinity environments of the marshlands of southern Iraq.
This study represents a pioneering step in this field and is part of the scientific plan followed by the Department of Natural Marine Sciences to understand adaptive mechanisms at the level of gene control.
