Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Marine Sciences, Assistant Professor Dr. Osama Qasim Khalifa, the College of Marine Sciences at the University of Basra witnessed a special event on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, to inaugurate the "Carly Marine Lifebuoy."

The event began with a speech by the Dean, who emphasized the college's commitment to developing its educational infrastructure and providing modern marine safety equipment. This was followed by an informational and awareness lecture delivered by Colonel Nabil Jamil, which focused on the buoy's operation and safety and rescue procedures in marine emergencies.

This event is part of a series of scientific and field activities organized by the college to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the University of Basra, and was attended by a number of professors, staff, and students.
