The College of Sciences in Basra begins studying the effects of climate on biodiversity in marine waters.

The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Marine Sciences, University of Basra, held a specialized seminar entitled "The Impact of Climate Change on Biodiversity in Iraqi Marine Waters."

The seminar included a lecture by Dr. Ahmed Jassim Al-Shammari, a faculty member at the Marine Science Center, which addressed current environmental challenges. The lecture aimed to study and analyze how climate change variables—particularly rising temperatures and sea levels—affect the natural and physical characteristics of the marine environment in Iraq.

The researcher also reviewed the repercussions of these changes on habitats and ecosystems, explaining the extent to which changes in non-living characteristics affect the biological balance, thus contributing to a better understanding of the environmental risks facing Iraqi territorial waters.
