The Dean of the College of Marine Sciences at the University of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Osama Qasim Khalifa, participated in the dissertation defense committee for doctoral student Altaf Rahim Shanishil in the Department of Earth Sciences, College of Science. Her dissertation was titled: "Environmental Assessment of Hydrocarbon Compounds and Trace Elements in Sediment Core from the Tigris River in Maysan, Iraq."
This participation comes within the framework of academic cooperation between colleges and the exchange of scientific expertise, reflecting the College of Marine Sciences' commitment to supporting scientific research and diverse disciplines.
Dr. Osama Qasim Khalifa, who possesses extensive experience in marine sciences and the environment, emphasized the importance of scientific research in supporting the development of local capabilities and protecting water resources. He pointed out that such studies contribute to assessing environmental risks and identifying sources of pollution, thus enabling the formulation of practical recommendations for preserving ecosystems and improving water and sediment quality.
