As part of national efforts to protect marine resources and ensure their sustainability

On Monday, December 15, 2025, a scientific symposium was held at the College of Marine Sciences, under the supervision of the Dean, Dr. Osama Qasim Khalifa. The symposium, held under the slogan "Enhancing the Security and Environment of Territorial Waters: Everyone's Responsibility," included the participation of several departments and institutions related to maritime affairs. Participants included:

1- The Naval Force Command and the Arabian Gulf Academy for Maritime Studies.

2- The Fourth Border Region Command.

3- The Iraqi Maritime Authority.

4- The General Company for Iraqi Ports.

5- The General Company for Maritime Transport.

6- The Oil Tankers Company.

7- The Southern Region Directorate.

This event emphasized the importance of joint cooperation between governmental, technical, and security agencies to maintain the security of territorial waters and protect them from pollution and violations, which will positively impact the marine environment, natural resources, and the national economy.

Participants stressed in their presentations that protecting the marine environment is a collective responsibility that requires concerted efforts, the exchange of expertise, and the application of relevant laws and regulations, in addition to raising public awareness of the importance of preserving water resources. The event featured discussions on the most prominent challenges facing territorial waters and the formulation of several recommendations to enhance measures for achieving maritime security and protecting the marine ecosystem, while emphasizing the importance of continued joint coordination among participating departments to achieve the desired objectives.

This activity is part of a series of programs aimed at strengthening environmental and water security and consolidating the concept of partnership and national responsibility in protecting territorial waters.

At the end of the seminar, the Dean presented certificates of appreciation to the participating entities and individuals.
