The College of Marine Sciences at the University of Basra organized a scientific seminar entitled "The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS)."

The seminar aimed to raise awareness of the importance of maritime safety and enhance understanding of the procedures followed in maritime academies.

The seminar included a lecture presented by Captain Ali Jumaa Khalaf Al-Abouda, who reviewed the most important articles of the convention, safety procedures, and the radio equipment used in the global maritime distress and safety system.

The seminar highlighted the university's role in establishing maritime safety concepts within the framework of sustainable development and promoting community awareness of this vital field.
