Sustainable Development: Awareness and Education as a Means to Support the Deaf and Mute Segment in Society

The Human Rights Unit at the College of Marine Sciences at the University of Basra, in collaboration with the Educational Guidance Unit and the Student Activities Department, organized an awareness seminar titled "Awareness and Education: The Role of Society in Supporting the Deaf and Mute Population" on Wednesday in Hall 2.

The seminar aimed to raise community awareness of the needs of the deaf and mute population, present educational methods to support this group, and encourage discussion about the role of society in improving their quality of life. The importance of awareness as a means of promoting social inclusion was also highlighted.

The seminar included lectures delivered by Assistant Lecturer Alaa El-Din Karim Atshan, Head of the Human Rights Unit; Dr. Nadia Ali Hussein, Head of the Educational Guidance Unit; and Assistant Lecturer Azhar Kamel Nasser, Head of the Documentation Unit. The lecturers addressed effective strategies for communicating with the deaf and mute, the importance of psychosocial support, and how to enhance this group's participation in society.

This seminar contributed to enhancing community understanding and providing valuable information on how to support the deaf and mute population, contributing to their better integration into daily life.
