
On the occasion of the International Day for Biodiversity, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Marine Sciences at the University of Basrah held a workshop titled "Geologic Reserves and Geodiversity" on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, in the conference hall.
The workshop aimed to:
- Raise awareness about the importance of geologic reserves in preserving geodiversity.
- Exchange knowledge and recent research in the field of geology and biodiversity.
- Strengthen cooperation between universities and scientific institutions to address environmental challenges.
The workshop included a lecture delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Bassem Hamid Sultan, a lecturer in the Department of Earth Sciences at the College of Science, who discussed the importance of geologic reserves and their role in protecting ecosystems. He also reviewed the latest studies and research related to geodiversity in Iraq, sparking a fruitful dialogue among participants on ways to enhance national efforts in this field.
