A lecturer at the College of Marine Sciences participates in a symposium on domestic violence

Ms. Azhar Kamel Nasser, a lecturer at the College of Marine Sciences at the University of Basra, participated in managing a symposium entitled "Domestic Violence is a Prevalent Phenomenon in Society", which was organized by the Department of Medical Laboratories at the Technical Medical Institute.

The symposium addressed the definition of domestic violence as a sensitive, multi-dimensional issue that affects individuals, families and society as a whole, stressing the importance of addressing this phenomenon through integrated efforts that include all segments of society, while emphasizing the need for strong political and societal will to achieve the desired change.

The symposium included a set of proposals and recommendations:

1- Organizing awareness campaigns to increase society's understanding of the effects of domestic violence.

2- Including the topic of domestic violence in school curricula to enhance awareness among young people.

3- Providing advisory services to affected families to help them recover.

4- Enhancing the implementation of laws that protect victims of domestic violence and providing appropriate penalties for perpetrators.

5- Enhancing cooperation between governmental and non-governmental institutions to confront domestic violence.
