Within the activities of introducing the local government in Basra to the College of Marine Sciences and the importance of this specialized college to provide institutions and facilities of a marine nature with specialized cadres in the field of marine sciences and the protection of marine waters and marine resources and their preservation and the implementation of international agreements and treaties as well as the preservation of marine coasts and estuary waters, the Dean of the College of Marine Sciences, Assistant Professor Dr. Osama Qasim Khalifa, accompanied by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Professor Dr. Nouris Abdul Ghani Al-Faiz, visited on Thursday 9/12/2024, a member of the Basra Provincial Council, Head of the Education Committee, Ms. Wijdan Al-Maliki. The two parties exchanged talks about the importance of this young college, and the two parties discussed the idea and importance of establishing the College of Marine Sciences at the University of Basra to be the first specialized college to prepare scientific and trained cadres in the field of marine sciences due to the specificity of Basra Governorate as the only sea outlet for the country, and the need to prepare specialized cadres in the field of marine sciences to work in governmental and private institutions of a marine nature, as well as the possibility of combining efforts to support the college through the local and central government to improve its reality as well as provide job opportunities for graduates. For her part, Mrs. Wijdan Al-Maliki welcomed this generous visit, and promised that she is keen to obtain support and assistance for the college in all the topics raised, and that she is very happy with this visit and will visit the College of Marine Sciences soon.
