On Sunday, 9/8/2024, the Dean of the College of Marine Sciences, Assistant Professor Dr. Osama Qasim Khalifa, accompanied by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Professor Dr. Nouris Abdul Ghani Al-Faiz, met with His Excellency Representative Faleh Al-Khazaali, Chairman of the Agriculture, Marshes and Water Committee in the House of Representatives. 

The two parties discussed the reality of the College of Marine Sciences and the reasons for establishing this college at the University of Basra, as it is the first specialized college in the marine field in Iraq and the specificity of Basra Governorate as the only sea outlet for the country and the need to prepare specialized cadres to work in the marine field in terms of preserving the marine and coastal environment and protecting it from pollution and sustaining its resources. 

The two parties exchanged talks about the possibility of combining efforts to provide support to the college through the local and central governments to develop it as well as provide job opportunities for graduates. 

For his part, the representative welcomed this generous visit and the keenness of those in charge of the college to develop it to make it one of the leading colleges in the country and their keenness to provide job opportunities for its graduates in light of the country's orientation towards reaching blue ports and implementing agreements to preserve and protect the marine environment as well as investing in marine resources

He confirmed to the Dean the special nature of the College of Marine Sciences, and promised the Deputy that he would spare no effort in providing full support and assistance in all the topics raised in the service of Basra and Iraq.
