The trip included shedding light on the geological situation of the region in general and Mount Sanam in particular, the most important historical events of this distinctive and unique feature in Basra Governorate, and the most important geomorphological and structural features.
In order to train students on the basics of field work, including how to identify rock layers and record field observations, including descriptions of natural phenomena, structures, and rock detectors, as well as how to measure and read the different positions of the layers using field tools and devices such as a compass and GPS system, as well as the correct orientation of paper maps used for the site.
Samples of rocks found at the Sanam Mountain site were also brought in order to supply the department's laboratories with these unique and distinctive rocks.
