The Department of Applied Marine Sciences of the College of Marine Science, in coordination with the Great Faw Port Project of the Iraqi Ports Company, has organized a scientific trip to the Great Port of Faw project on Wednesday 30th March 2022. The trip was part of the Marine Geophysics Course for the third-year students who have observed the marine and geophysical surveys in the field. The students were accompanied by instructors Prof. Wessal Fakhry, Head Department of Applied Marine Sciences, Prof. Dunia Khairallah, Scientific Deputy of the Dean, Course lecturer Prof. Wissam Razak, Dr . Zuhairali Abd Al-Nabi, Lecturer Salah Mahdi, Lecturer Fadhil Jabbar and Lecturer Atyaf Muhammad. They were accompanied by Dr. Dhiaa Abbas Khashen, Information Officer of the Great Port of Faw.
The activities included a visit to the site of the port and the breakwaters (eastern and western) to learn about the volume of the completed and ongoing works. The site of the Al-Sarraj Al-Mudie Company was also visited and their survey work was presented to the students and the detection of marine and military waste as well. Field practice was given in front of the students to explain surveys and operations of extracting sunken marine targets using human diving.
